Social Studies Alive! Me and My World
This curriculum explores the relationships in students' lives with their families, friends, teachers, and neighbors. Students learn that people live differently in different places and that they can help care for the world.
September- Our Class Community: Making friends, getting along with others, solving problems with peers, being a good helper at school.
October- What Is a Family? Learning what makes families special and different.
November-My Country: American symbols, traditions and celebrations.
December- Where Am I In the World? Learning about the 7 continents and oceans on our planet, discussing how holidays are celebrated in different countries.
January- Martin Luther King Unit: Students discuss how to make peace in our world.
January-February-How Do People Live Around the World? Exploring 10 different countries and learning that although people around the world are different, they are also alike in important ways.
March-April-Our Town and Neighborhood Community- Learning about the businesses, professional people and helpers in our West Lake/Rollingwood community. Our own parents are interviewed about their work and place in the community.
May-How Can I Help Take Care of the World? Students explore the three R's-recycling, reusing and reducing.
